Section 1. Short title

This Act may be cited as the Presidential Election Resource Investment for Major Threat Response Act of 2024 or as the PERIMTR Act of 2024.

(a) Rescission

There is rescinded from the unobligated balances of amounts made available under section 10301(1) of Public Law 117–169 (commonly known as the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022) (136 Stat. 2053) $3,000,000,000.

(b) Appropriation

There is appropriated to the Director of the United States Secret Service $3,000,000,000, to remain available until expended, for the purpose of applying the same standards, practices, and protocols for protecting the President to protecting Vice Presidents, major Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates, and former presidents. These standards, practices, and protocols include the number of agents, equipment, and other assets needed to carry out the requirements of this subsection.

(c) Definition

In this Act, the term major Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates has the meaning given such term in section 3056 of title 18, United States Code, and includes any other Presidential or Vice Presidential candidate for whom the President has otherwise authorized the Secret Service to protect.
