Section 1. Short title

This Act may be cited as the Veterans in Campus Safety Act.

(a) Definitions

In this section:

(1) Campus

The term campus has the meaning given the term in section 485(f)(6)(A)(ii) of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 1092(f)(6)(A)(ii)).

(2) Institution of higher education

The term institution of higher education has the meaning given the term in section 102 of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 1002).

(3) Secretary

The term Secretary means the Secretary of Education.

(4) Veteran

The term veteran has the meaning given such term in section 101 of title 38, United States Code.

(b) Authorization of grant program

The Secretary shall award grants, on a competitive basis, to institutions of higher education to enable the institutions to hire veterans as campus security personnel.

(c) Application

An institution of higher education that desires to receive a grant under this section shall submit an application to the Secretary at such time, in such manner, and accompanied by such information as the Secretary may reasonably require.

(d) Use of funds

An institution of higher education that receives a grant under this section shall use the grant funds to hire veterans as campus security personnel for the campus of the institution.

Section 3. Prohibition on funding for Equity Assistance Centers

Notwithstanding any other provision of law, no Federal funds may be used to support Equity Assistance Centers, as described in part 270 of title 34, Code of Federal Regulations, or any similar center.
