Section 1. Short title
This Act may be cited as the Benay Taub Lung Cancer Research Act.
(a) Establishment
The Secretary of Health and Human Services shall establish a task force, to be known as the Lung Cancer Task Force, within the National Institutes of Health.
(b) Membership
The members of the task force shall be appointed by the Secretary, and shall include—
(1) at least one representative of the National Cancer Institute; and
(2) at least one representative of the National Comprehensive Cancer Control Program of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
(c) Duties
The task force shall examine—
(1) disparities in lung cancer research, funding, and patient access to treatments as compared to other diseases, taking into account the number of people affected by lung cancer;
(2) the level of Federal funding for lung cancer research in relation to the burden caused by the disease; and
(3) lung cancer screenings in the United States.
(d) Report to Congress
Not later than 180 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall transmit to Congress a report containing the findings and recommendations of the task force, including recommendations for increasing the level of Federal funding for lung cancer research.
