Section 1. Short title

This Act may be cited as the Citizen Ballot Protection Act.

(a) In general

Section 6(a) of the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (52 U.S.C. 20505(a)) is amended—

(1) in paragraph (1), by inserting, except that a State may, in addition to the criteria stated in section 9(b), require that an applicant provide proof that the applicant is a citizen of the United States after elections for Federal office; and

(2) in paragraph (2), by inserting and such form may include a requirement that the applicant provide proof that the applicant is a citizen of the United States after elections for Federal office.

(b) Technical correction

Section 6(a)(1) of such Act (52 U.S.C. 20505(a)(1)) is amended by striking Federal Election Commission and inserting Election Assistance Commission.

(c) Effective date

This section shall take effect on the date of the enactment of this Act.
