Section 1. Short title
This Act may be cited as the Nutrition Services Improvement Plan Act.
(a) In general
Not later than 1 year after the date of enactment of this Act, the Comptroller General of the United States shall conduct a study to evaluate the Nutrition Services Incentive Program of the Department of Agriculture under section 311 of the Older Americans Act of 1965 (42 U.S.C. 3030a) (referred to in this section as the Program).
(b) Inclusions
The study under this section shall include an assessment of the ability of the Program—
(1) to engage and support local farms in supplying food products for nutrition services under the Older Americans Act of 1965 (42 U.S.C. 3001 et seq.); and
(2) to support produce prescription programs and medically tailored meals for older individuals (as defined in section 102 of that Act (42 U.S.C. 3002)).
(c) Factors for consideration
In conducting the study under this section, the Comptroller General of the United States shall take into consideration—
(1) the impact of the Program on local farms participating in the Program;
(2) the demand for the Program from local farms; and
(3) effects on the health of older individuals (as so defined) as a result of the provision of fresh produce under the Program.
