Task Force to Stop Price Gouging Act of 2024

Section 1. Short title

This Act may be cited as the Task Force to Stop Price Gouging Act of 2024.

(a) Establishment

There is established a task force (to be known as the Task Force to Stop Price Gouging) to address unfair and illegal pricing issues affecting consumers in the United States.

(b) Members

The task force established by subsection (a) shall be comprised of the following:

(1) Representatives of the Department of Justice, appointed by the Attorney General.

(2) Representatives of the Federal Trade Commission, appointed by the Chair of the Commission.

(3) Representatives of the Department of Agriculture, appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture.

(c) Duties

The task force established by subsection (a) shall carry out the following:

(1) Investigate, and publish legislative recommendations with respect to, actions to—

(A) strengthen interagency efforts to address anti-competitive, unfair, deceptive, or fraudulent business practices that increase prices for families in the United States;

(B) prevent consolidation in the food sector; and

(C) counteract food price manipulation throughout the supply chain.

(2) Not later than 180 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, and every 90 days thereafter, submit to Congress a report that—

(A) describes interagency efforts to address anti-competitive, unfair, deceptive, or fraudulent business practices that increase prices for families in the United States;

(B) describes the effect of Federal Government spending on food prices;

(C) describes actions taken to streamline Federal Government spending with respect to the food sector to strengthen the supply chain and support families in the United States; and

(D) analyzes input costs with respect to producers, manufacturers, and retailers.
