Section 1. Short title

This Act may be cited as the Driving Forward Act.

(a) Extended exemption period

The Secretary of Transportation shall issue such regulations as are necessary to extend the exemption from the pre-trip vehicle skills testing component for Commercial Drivers License test candidates for the intra-state operation of school buses of the Department of Transportation titled Commercial Driver's License: Application for Exemption; National School Transportation Association, issued on October 27, 2022 (87 Fed. Reg. 65114), until November 27, 2027.

(b) Public comments on further extension of exemption

Not later than 120 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall solicit public comments on the feasibility and potential benefits of granting an exemption of unlimited duration.

(c) Availability of funding

Notwithstanding any other provision of law, funds made available to a State under section 31313 of title 49, United States Code, may be used by the State to assist with costs associated with implementing the exemption under subsection (a).
