Section 1. Short title

This Act may be cited as the Tribal Community Protection Act of 2024.

Section 2. Grants authorized for Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program

Section 501 of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (34 U.S.C. 10152) is amended to read as follows:

(1) in subsection (a)(1), by adding at the end the following:; and

(J) Programs to provide written notification on any restraining order or temporary restraining order for the purpose of enforcement on tribal lands and enforcement of any such order issued by an Indian tribe.

(2) by adding at the end the following:

(i) Definitions

In this section:

(1) Tribal lands

The term tribal lands means lands the title to which is held by the United States in trust for an Indian tribe or lands the title to which is held by an Indian tribe subject to a restriction by the United States against alienation.

(2) Indian tribe

The term Indian tribe shall have the meaning given such term in section 102 of the Federally Recognized Indian Tribe List Act of 1994.

(3) Written notification

The term written notification means a notification that is sent by registered or certified mail, with return receipt requested, to Indian tribes and for which a copy of such notification is sent to the appropriate Regional Director of the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
