Section 1. Short title
This Act may be cited as the Save Our Pedestrians Act of 2024.
Section 2. Set-aside for high-risk pedestrian crossings
Section 148 of title 23, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following:
(1) In general
Of the funds apportioned to a State under section 104(b)(3) for fiscal year 2025 and each fiscal year thereafter, the Secretary shall require that an amount equal to 5 percent of such funds shall be expended on highway safety improvement projects carried out to reduce the number of injuries and fatalities at high-risk pedestrian crossings.
(2) High-risk pedestrian crossing defined
In this subsection, the term high-risk pedestrian crossing means a pedestrian crossing on a highway identified by the State, in consultation with units of local government within such State, as having a high frequency of injuries or fatalities resulting from an incident between a motor vehicle and a pedestrian.
