Section 1. Consolidation of certain divisions in the Northern District of Alabama

Amends federal law to reorganize court divisions in Alabama's Northern District.

Section 81(a) of title 28, United States Code, is amended—

Reduces the number of divisions in the Northern District from seven to five.

(1) in the matter preceding paragraph (1), by striking seven and inserting five;

Moves Lawrence County from one division to a division with Lauderdale County.

(2) in paragraph (1), by striking and Lauderdale and inserting Lauderdale, and Lawrence;

Makes three changes to which counties belong to the second division.

(3) in paragraph (2)—

Removes Lawrence County from the second division.

(A) by striking Lawrence,;

Adds Marshall County to the second division after Madison County.

(B) by inserting after Madison, the following: Marshall,; and

Removes Decatur County from the second division.

(C) by striking and Decatur;

Reassigns multiple counties to the third division, including Cherokee and Saint Clair.

(4) in paragraph (4), by striking Clay, Cleburne, and inserting Cherokee, Clay, Cleburne, DeKalb, Etowah, Saint Clair,;

Reassigns multiple counties to the fourth division, including Lamar and Walker.

(5) in paragraph (5), by striking Greene, Pickens, Sumter, and Tuscaloosa and inserting Fayette, Greene, Lamar, Marion, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, Walker, and Winston;

Eliminates the sixth division of the Northern District.

(6) by striking paragraph (6); and

Eliminates the seventh division of the Northern District.

(7) by striking paragraph (7).
