Section 1. Short title

This Act may be cited as the Elder Abuse Prevention in Public Housing Act.

Section 2. Training regarding issues relating to the abuse, neglect, or exploitation of elder persons

Title I of the United States Housing Act of 1937 (42 U.S.C. 1437 et seq.) is amended by adding at the end the following:

(a) In general

The Secretary shall require each public housing agency receiving assistance under this Act who have a responsibility for administering the housing assistance program under section 8 provide adequate training to all employees with respect to prevention, identification, and intervention as it relates to signs of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of elder persons that receive assistance under the housing assistance program under section 8.

(b) Consultation required

The Secretary shall require each public housing agency to, each year, consult with local elder abuse organizations, multidisciplinary teams, State agencies, local agencies, or Tribal agencies, as appropriate, when designing the training provided to employees pursuant to subsection (a).

(c) Definitions

In this section:

(1) The terms abuse, neglect, and exploitation have the meaning given such terms in section 2011 of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 1397j).

(2) The term elder person has the meaning given such term in section 2011 of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 1397j).
